Morocco Trip 13-20.12.2008

Dear Gray Family

This is a quick overview of our morocco trip in december. Your flight to Marrakech starts from London Gatwick on Monday the 15th at 15:15h arriving time is 18:55h. A short ride in a cab will bring you to a fantastic Riad, which is a traditional Moroccan house or palace with an interior garden. The word riad comes from the Arabian term for garden.Riad Tchaikana

Day 1:
Marrakech the red city and capital of the south has 1 million habitants, it is also a symbol of the Morocco that once was, and which still survives here. The streets of the old and pink city have been too narrow to allow effective introduction of cars. Marrakech is situated close to the Atlas mountains, and on most days you can see blue mountains covered with snow over the rooftops. We will spend the whole day exploring the souk and the magic medina.

Day 2:
We hire a 4x4 car and drive towards the atlas mountains. We will cross the Tizi-n-Tichka (2300m) a mountain pass with spectacular views and head to Ait Benhaddou a 'fortified city', or ksar, along the former caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech. We spend the night in Dar Mouna

Ait Benhaddou

Day 3:
We have a early start. Our way leads us trough the town of Quazarzate down the Draa Valley. The Draa Valley is a long oasis that goes south from Ouarzazate into the Sahara Desert. We spend the night in Zagora in the palm grove next to the riverside at Riad Lamane.

Day 4:
Mhamid is the last little village before the Sahara. From here we will do a day trip into the desert and spend the night in a berber tent in the dunes of Erg Lehoudi.

Day 5:
If the weather is good we will enter into the desert and cross the Iriki lake towards Foum Zguid. It is about 140km off road and will give us a little taste of the big desert. We spend the night in Foum Zguid

Day 6:
From Foum Zguid a long, but very scenic drive (300km) will bring us back to Marrakech.

The flight back to the Gatwick leaves Marrakech the 20th of December at 11:45, or (19:25)

This Roundtrip is not too tight and will give us one spare day if we feel like spending more time in a particularly spot. The weather is likely to be dry and a bit cold. Average at night around 4C and 14C at day time.

I would be greatfull if you could let me know within the next days who is gonna join the trip!
See you in Morocco!! mail to Jean
